Metro Laundry Service Celebrates Housekeeping Staff During 2024 Housekeeping Week

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD, Sep 8, 2024—In a display of appreciation and gratitude, Metro Laundry Service (MLS) recently took part in celebrating Housekeeping Week by recognizing the hard work and dedication of housekeeping teams by delivering gift bags and other treats to six of its prestigious luxury hotel clients throughout the Washington D.C. metro area. This initiative highlighted the crucial role these often-overlooked employees play in maintaining the high standards of cleanliness and comfort expected by hotel guests.

The celebration was particularly special for Metro Laundry, as it marked more than 15 years of partnership with one of its very first clients, the Hamilton Hotel. Steven Young, the Chief Operating Officer of Metro Laundry Service, expressed his pride and enthusiasm, saying, "We were thrilled to celebrate housekeeping staff, especially at the Hamilton Hotel, where we’ve enjoyed a strong relationship since they became our first hotel client more than 15 years ago." Young emphasized the importance of these teams, noting, "Housekeeping teams are the unsung heroes of the hospitality industry, and it’s an honor to recognize their essential contributions."

In addition to recognizing the team at the Hamilton Hotel, Metro Laundry Service delivered personalized gift bags, gift cards, donuts, and cupcakes to recognize the dedicated housekeeping teams at five other distinguished hotel clients: Hotel Washington, Capital Hilton, Westin Crystal City, Westin Alexandria, and Le Méridien Washington D.C.. Metro Laundry Service was proud to partner with another local black-owned business, DC Sweet Potato Cake, owned by April Richardson, to provide the cupcakes.

A key highlight of the celebration was Metro Laundry Service’s collaboration with another local black-owned business, DC Sweet Potato Cake, led by entrepreneur April Richardson. DC Sweet Potato Cake provided the delicious cupcakes that added a sweet touch to the festivities. The partnership underscored Metro Laundry Service’s commitment not only to the housekeeping staff within the luxury hotel industry but also to supporting other local businesses. "We’re incredibly grateful to April and her team at DC Sweet Potato Cake for helping us make this Housekeeping Week memorable for our clients’ housekeeping teams," Steven Young added.

For many years, housekeeping staff have been considered the backbone of the hospitality industry. They ensure that guests enjoy a clean, comfortable, and safe environment during their stay. However, these crucial employees often go unrecognized and work behind the scenes. Housekeeping Week provided Metro Laundry Service with an opportunity to shine a well-deserved spotlight on the commitment and diligence of these teams. By making them the focus of this celebration, Metro Laundry Service hoped to express its gratitude for their vital role in ensuring the success of the hotels it services.

Housekeeping Week is an annual event celebrated across the hospitality industry, where businesses take the time to acknowledge the efforts of cleaning and maintenance teams. Metro Laundry Service’s decision to honor these teams underscores the company's dedication to creating a positive work culture and fostering long-lasting relationships with both its clients and the essential workers who keep the industry thriving.

Although Housekeeping Week only comes once a year, Metro Laundry Service’s commitment to supporting housekeeping staff extends well beyond this event. As Steven Young pointed out, "We’re looking forward to future Housekeeping Weeks, but we’re excited to continue supporting the invaluable work of housekeeping staff every day." This sentiment reflects MLS’s broader vision of maintaining a supportive and appreciative relationship with its partners in the hospitality industry, recognizing that their success is deeply intertwined with the efforts of the housekeeping staff.

Metro Laundry Service's participation in Housekeeping Week serves as a reminder of the importance of showing appreciation for all workers, especially those who often go unnoticed. By recognizing and celebrating the efforts of housekeeping teams, MLS reinforces its commitment to quality service, both for its hotel clients and for the dedicated individuals who help maintain those high standards behind the scenes.
